how do I play pokemon go with iPod touch 5th generation because there is no gps

My son has an iPod touch 5th generation and enjoys playing pokemon go. He connects to wifi through hot spots or other ways, but often gets "GPS signal has been lost" because the iPod touch does not come with GPS like a phone does. Are there ways to connect a GPS device to his iPod touch to eliminate this problem?

Actually, he can and does....he just often loses GPS signal because the touch does not have GPS built in like a phone does. If he is in a spot with a lot of satellite, he doesn't lose GPS as easily or when in my car, which has GPS. When connected to a hot spot or wifi, it is possible to play...the GPS has just been an issue sometimes. I saw where someone found a GPS chip or device that could be connected to the touch, making it capable of GPS, therefore, helping him not lose signal connection. Was hoping someone can tell me exactly what it is called and where to get it. Thanks for the help!
